The legendary Scirocco R is unmistakable from the moment you set eyes on it. Featuring a distinctive and stylish three-door design, the Scirocco R can trace its design roots back to the sporty Scirocco of the 1970s. Updated and redesigned for the 21st century the low, wide profile with prominent wheel arches and uncompromising lines immediately speak of the high-performance beast that lurks within.

‘R’ Styling

From the first time your glance meets the Scirocco R you know the car means business. Subtle ‘R’ badges on the front grille and rear tailgate are the first signs to speak of the car’s performance ability. From the front notice the R-specific radiator grille in gloss black and the imposing R-Specific front bumper with 3 large lower air intakes with gloss black louvre style grille inserts designed to help the car cut through the air.Moving around the side and rear of the car, the stylish gloss black door mirrors, gloss black brake calipers and wide sills in body colour continue its imposing presence. The large R-specific rear spoiler, dark tinted tail lights, R-specific rear bumper with integrated gloss black diffuser and chrome-plated visible dual tailpipes, mounted right and left, complete the impressive exterior R-specific detailing.

Lighting

For superior clarity and visibility and featuring stylish R-specific black headlight housing, Scirocco R includes as standard powerful Bi-Xenon headlights for both low and high beam and stylish LED daytime driving lights located in the front bumper. The Bi-Xenon headlights are a development of Volkswagen’s Xenon headlight technology and use an electromagnetically operated shutter to control light output.

Talladega Alloy wheels

No matter how powerful the engine, how slick the gearbox or how perfectly tuned the dynamics, these factors will all be worthless without the ability to transmit power to the ground. Luckily the Scirocco R is equipped with our stunning Talladega 19x8-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in low profile 235/35 R19 tyres. And like everything else on the Scirocco R, the wheels combine unparalleled design and dynamic efficiency.

Enjoy the 6.5-inch touch screen multi-function entertainment unit with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and auxiliary input as standard, as well as Bluetooth® phone connectivity, operational via touch screen display or Multi Function Display unit.

Or upgrade to the optional Satellite Navigation System with high resolution touch screen display, featuring topographical and 3D (bird’s eye) map views, including voice control for telephone, navigation and radio functions. The system also includes an integrated 30GB hard drive for music storage, SD card slot and single DVD drive for audio/ MP3 playback.

For impeccable sound quality upgrade to the optional Dynaudio Excite premium audio system. Featuring an impressive 300W digital amplifier with 8 speakers you’ll hear every beat, note and lyric. The system is available with both the standard entertainment and optional Satellite Navigation unit.

Steering Wheel

Grip the three-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel and notice the sporting touches that filter through to every element of the Scirocco R. Feel the flat-bottomed steering wheel, taking its cue from a racing car. Notice the grey stitching and gloss black accents and change gear at the click of a finger with the steering-wheel mounted gearshift paddles for DSG-equipped models.

Seats

Following in the footsteps of the original Scirocco, the Scirocco R is a true 2+2 coupé with four individual seats, including open rear head restraints. Combining comfort for the everyday commute and exceptional ergonomic stability for those more challenging corners, the seats are upholstered in our stylish and sporty ‘Kylami’ black cloth with accents of ‘San Remo’ grey microfibre and finished with contrasting grey stitching.

'R' Styling

Step inside the Scirocco R and notice a range of details designed to both look good and improve your driving experience. Note the triangular door handles, unique to Scirocco, finished with black gloss detailing. The black gloss detailing continues down the centre console, complimenting the ‘Silver Lane’ decorative trim of the instrument panel and unique pedals in aluminium. Never forget the power of the Scirocco R with aluminium door sills, the steering wheel and front head restraints discreetly displaying the ‘R’ logo. Specify the optional DSG transmission and enjoy a chrome-plated gear knob with DSG lettering etched into the top.

Nothing is more important to Volkswagen than the safety of its vehicles, or more properly, the safety of our vehicles’ drivers and passengers.

Utilising the latest in Volkswagen safety technology the Scirocco R features a range of active and passive safety systems to both prevent and protect the driver and passengers in the case of an accident.

Helping you maintain control in difficult driving situations and designed to prevent accidents from happening, our active safety systems include Traction Control (Electronic Differential Lock – EDL, Anti-Slip Regulation – ASR, and Electronic Stabilisation Program – ESP) and Braking Control (Brake Assist, ABS and Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution – EBD).

Protecting occupants from injury and reducing the impact of collisions, our passive safety systems include six airbags as standard, twin front, front side and full length curtain, reducing the risk of sever head and chest injuries in collisions. The Scirocco R also features safety optimised front head restraints, seat belts – front seats with belt pre-tensioners and belt force limiters. Scirocco R also features Hill Start Assist (HSA) which holds the car in place for 1.5 seconds on hills with an incline greater than 5% to allow for a smooth hill start and avoid dangerous roll backs.

TSI petrol engine

Featuring direct-injection and a turbocharger for peak performance, Volkswagen’s TSI technology gives the Scirocco R incredible power delivery from low revs, while offering reductions in fuel consumption and emissions thanks to its highly efficient direct-injection system.

Transmissions

Available with a 6-speed manual as standard or optional 6-speed DSG transmission, the Scirocco R offers the best of both worlds depending on your driving preference.

If your preference is for our innovative DSG transmission, enjoy gear changes that are controlled electronically where the next gear is already pre-selected and awaiting power to be transferred thanks to our dual clutch system. The result is a gear change that takes only 3-4 hundredths of a second meaning virtually no interruption to power delivery, traction or acceleration, as well as the additional flexibility of being fully automatic or controlled by the driver. And because it ensures optimum power delivery, DSG provides excellent fuel consumption.

Adaptive Chassis Control

Volkswagen’s Adaptive Chassis Control system monitors and adjusts the Scirocco R’s handling to match the road conditions, the driving situation and the driver’s requirements. With three damper settings – normal, comfort and sport – easily selected with a button on the centre console the optimum ride is always available. The sport setting also adjusts the weight of the steering, giving you more feeling and control on the road ahead.

Extended Electronic Differential Lock (XDL)

An extension of Volkswagen’s Electronic Differential Lock system, the Scirocco R’s XDL reacts to load relief at the front inside wheel when cornering hard. It applies pressure from the ESP hydraulics to the wheel to prevent traction loss or slippage, improving grip and reducing understeer. Which means you can tackle corners with more confidence and safety.
